The semester exam in my class is very simple. We watch our concert and constructively critique it. This featured picture is of the Gridiron Glee Club in the last class before the exam practicing watching a video without talking. The video in question? Brahms Piano Quartet featuring live performers with the music animation machine, a channel I use in my classroom often. Enjoy the video here: Brahms Piano Quartet
The goal was to have the boys watch an extended piece of music and form their own opinions with the limited music terms they have at their disposal.

They did well watching this video. I equated it to watching film. When it came time to watch their performance, they had a mixed energy…..they felt shame in the way they sounded one moment and then an unfamiliar sense of pride the next with the parts they nailed. It was difficult for them to be quiet and put their thoughts to paper…..I will take what I can get.
With the remaining moments after the exam, I pulled eight strong singers aside and had them sing a four part chord. The bell rang and I told them that they ended the semester on a good note. Smiles all around. To be continued…..
