First GGC Performance November 14th 2025 6:00 p.m.

So it’s truly been a minute since I have posted about the Gridiron Glee Club. First and foremost, we are a week away from our first performance. The group is excited. Since I last posted, five singers were selected for the MNPS Honor Choir. This means that had the privilege to sing alongside girls for the first time. Sonic heaven for their ears.

6 Freshmen from my SAB Freshmen Choir and 4 from GGC from the MNPS Honor Choir

At next Friday’s concert, the four choirs of Lawson will combine with H.G. Hill Middle School’s 8th grade choir for a Fall Concert. The combined groups will start with the round Friends, Forget The Cares That Bore Us in four parts by Mozart.

In addition to the other four ensembles performing their own set, The Gridiron Glee Club will perform three selections on their own:

Heartless by Kayne West featuring five different soloists accompanied by an instrumental track.

Fine by me – a round that is both catchy and fun to sing. We added a nice little tag to end. It’s an earworm.

Siyahamba – I arranged Siyahamba, the South African Hymn, for TBB choir. Today we added some movement so they wouldn’t rush. I enjoyed seeing them put their own style into the movements.

Other notable moments will include the debut performance of Hope Is The Thing With Feathers, a piece composed by one of my sophomores in Chamber Choir, the jazz standard Autumn Leaves by my SAB Freshmen Choir and the Polynesian canoe song Tongo by Mixed Chorus.

The concert will end with Lawson Choirs leading the crowd in a singalong of Elton John’s Sad Songs Say So Much and the round found in the Methodist Hymnal Go Now in Peace but I replaced the word “God” with “choir”. The students will teach the crowd the Curwen Hand Signs as we all sing together in four parts. Very effective music advocacy.

Thank you for reading my post and supporting this journey. If you wish to contribute to the choir program at Lawson, you may do so by contributing here:
